GFRA and Partners Present IEZET Project to MoFA and Fisheries Commission

GFRA and its consortium partners under the IEZ Enforcement and Transparency Policies Implementation (IEZET) Project met with the Honourable Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, together with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MoFA) and the Fisheries Commission (FC) management teams on 16 March 2025 at the MoFA Conference Room in Accra to formally present the project.

The project, led by GFRA in collaboration with the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) and Hen Mpoano (HM), and funded by the Oak Foundation and Oceans 5, will support MoFA and the Fisheries Commission to operationalize the 2025 Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, including support for the development of Fisheries Regulations, enforcement of the extended Inshore Exclusion Zone (IEZ), and implementation of transparency policy requirements.

During the meeting, GFRA Country Director Socrates Segbor presented the key components of the project.

Hon. Emelia Arthur welcomed the initiative and noted that the project supports the Ministry’s efforts to implement the new law. She encouraged close collaboration between the consortium, MoFA, and the Fisheries Commission, while emphasizing the importance of broad stakeholder engagement, particularly at the community level, to ensure that the new Act and its regulations are widely understood.
